Juvéderm Volbella is the latest addition to the Juvéderm family of products; the second formulation in the collection for the lips.  With a blend of different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid (HA), Volbella adds subtle, natural-looking volume to the lips and smooths perioral rhytids, often referred to as vertical lip lines, in adults over the age of 21.  With optimal treatment, Volbella is proven to last up to 1 year.

An allergy test is not required prior to receiving treatment because hyaluronic acid (HA) is naturally found in the body.  Volbella also contains lidocaine to reduce any pain during the procedure.

Your Juvéderm Volbella injection can be completed in approximately 30 minutes and in-office time may require 45-60 minutes.  Although most clients find the injections to be relatively painless, a topical anesthetic may be applied to the area prior to receiving your treatment.  There is no downtime with this treatment and the results are immediately.  Some clients experience a small amount of swelling for the first day and bruising.

Your skin requires a tailored program of care to optimize its health and appearance.  At your consultation, one of our Medical Aesthetics Specialists will gather information from you about your skin concerns, examine your skin and explain what they discover.  They will help you prioritize and achieve your best skin by preparing a treatment plan that ensures any skin treatments you choose are provided in a manner that is as effective and as safe as possible.  Our Medical Aesthetics Specialists have trained under Double-Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Richard Parfitt.  Their extensive knowledge of non-surgical procedures, skin care and skin rejuvenation treatments ensures they are skilled specialists in your chosen treatment.  Consultations can take place at either of our locations in Appleton, WI or Middleton, WI.

If you are a new client of AestheticA Skin Health Center and are interested in a specific treatment, time may be allotted for the consultation and treatment to be completed in one appointment. If you are a previous client of AestheticA, but have not been seen by our client within a year, a brief follow-up will be included in your appointment to discuss your previous treatment(s) or any new skin concerns you may have.

How long is the Juvéderm Volbella treatment?

The average treatment with any dermal filler takes about 30 minutes. However, this may vary depeding on the amount or type of correction you are seeking. Although most clients find the injections to be relatively painless, a topial anesthetic may be applied to the area prior to receiving your treatment, which may add to your time in clinic.

What is the difference between Juvéderm and Juvéderm Volbella?

The difference between Juvéderm and Juvéderm Volbella is the molecular weight of the hyaluronic acid. Juvéderm is used to “fill out” and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.  Both products may be used to add shape and volume to the lips, but Juvéderm Volbella’s thinner formulation and indication for the treatment of both the lips and unwanted perioral rhytids (vertical lip lines) may make it the better choice for you.  This will be determined upon the provider’s assessment of your lip anatomy, lip border and perioral rhytids (vertical lip lines).  Juvéderm and Juvéderm Volbella are both proven to last up to 1 year.

How long does Juvéderm Volbella last?

The results of treatment with Juvéderm Volbella can last up to 1 year.

Can I combine Juvéderm and Botox treatments?

Treatment with Botox, or any other neurotoxin, can be combined with Juvéderm Volbella or any other Juvéderm product during the same appointment.  Using both types of products helps most clients achieve their ideal result and may provide longer-lasting results.

When can I resume normal activities after my treatment?

No exercise, major manipulation of facial expressions or makeup application during the day of treatment is highly recommended. After 24 hours, you should be able to resume your normal activities.

What are my options if I am allergic to lidocaine?

Products that do not contain lidocaine are available. Allergies will be noted during your initial consultation.

When should I plan treatment for ideal results?

It is recommended that you receive treatment 2-4 weeks before you want/need the results for a specific event on your calendar.

Are there any side effects with Juvéderm products?

Side effects are moderate and generally last 2 to 4 weeks. Common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration and itching.

Will I bruise post treatment?

Bruising may vary. It may not occur at all. If it does, the bruise(s) can last 3-10 days. You can reduce risks of bruising and swelling if you do not take any Tylenol or Ibuprofen for 72 hours prior to treatment.

Patients predisposed to developing cold sores should start on 500mg of Valtrex twice daily at least 2 days before treatment.  A 7 day course of therapy is recommended (2 days prior and 5 days following filler).

Patients taking medications with anticoagulant effects, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve and Celebrex or high doses of certain herbs such as gingko, vitamin E, garlic or ginseng may have an increased risk of bleeding and bruising.  If possible, it is advised to discontinue these medications two weeks prior to treatment.  If you can’t, the treatment can still be done, but with higher risk of bruising.

  • There may be slight to moderate swelling and redness in the injected area for 24-48 hours. Avoid applying immediate pressure and excessive movements to the treated area, unless instructed to do so.
  • Apply a cool compress to treated area(s) as this may help to reduce swelling and potential for bruising.
  • Tylenol may be taken for any discomfort following treatment.
  • It is normal to feel some “tenderness” immediately following the treatment that may last for a few hours up to a few days and some “firmness” in your treated area(s). Over time the areas will soften and “settle” leaving a natural look.
  • There is a small potential for the filler to not disperse evenly and form a small “nodule”. Typically a nodule cannot be seen but you may be able to feel it. If this occurs and is bothersome, please call our office to book a follow-up appointment. The nodule may be a lingering bruise not requiring treatment; however, if a true nodule has formed we may be able evenly disperse the product.
  • Please call our office with any questions or concerns at 608.831.4007 (Middleton) or 920.730.1309 (Appleton).
