Juvéderm Voluma

Juvéderm Voluma in Wisconsin

From Allergan, Inc, the manufacturer of Botox and Juvéderm, Juvéderm® Voluma™ XC is a hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable product used to add volume to the cheek area.  Juvéderm products are composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a natural component in our bodies. AestheticA Skin Health Center offers a variety of Juvéderm products including Juvéderm Voluma at both locations in Middleton, WI and Appleton, WI.

Juvederm Voluma

Juvederm Voluma is the first and only FDA-approved filler to instantly add volume to the cheek area in people over the age of 21. Voluma is a non-surgical treatment that will provide a subtle lift and restore the contour of the cheeks for up to two years. Voluma has been clinically proven to last up to two years with optimal treatment. Due to Voluma’s larger molecule size, the product is less versatile and is region specific to the cheeks.

This product contains a modified hyaluronic acid (HA), derived from a naturally occurring complex sugar, as well as lidocaine to reduce any pain during the procedure. Because hyaluronic acid (HA) is naturally found in the body, an allergy test is not required prior to receiving treatment.

Men and women, over the age of 21, who are looking for volume in the cheek area may be an ideal candidate for Voluma treatments. Voluma can improve volume loss in the cheek area, but can also be used as a preventative treatment for future volume loss.

Any person with a known allergy to gram-positive bacterial proteins and/or lidocaine should not receive treatment with Juvéderm Voluma.

Voluma is injected under the skin, working instantly to add volume to all three areas of the cheek. Your Voluma injections can be completed in approximately 30 minutes and in office time may take 45-60 minutes. Although most clients find the injections to be relatively painless, a topical anesthetic may be applied to the area prior to receiving your treatment.

After 24 hours, you should be able to resume your normal activities. Side effects are moderate and generally last 2 to 4 weeks. Common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching.

Consultations can take place at either of our locations in Appleton, WI or Middleton, WI.

If you are a new client of AestheticA Skin Health Center and are interested in a specific treatment, time may be allotted for the consultation and treatment to be completed in one appointment. If you are a previous client of AestheticA, but have not been seen by our clinic within a year, a brief follow-up will be included in your appointment to discuss your previous treatment(s) or any new skin concerns you may have.

When can I resume normal activities after my treatment?

No exercise, major manipulation of facial expressions, or makeup application during the day of treatment is highly recommended. After 24 hours, you should be able to resume your normal activities.

How long is the Juvéderm Voluma treatment?

The average treatment with any dermal filler takes about 30 minutes. However, this may vary depending on the amount or type of correction you are seeking. Although most clients find the injections to be relatively painless, a topical anesthetic may be applied to the area prior to receiving your treatment, which may add to your time in clinic.

How long does Juvéderm Voluma last?

Since Juvéderm Voluma is a larger molecule size than Juvéderm XC, results can last up to 2 years.

What is the difference between Juvéderm and Juvéderm Voluma?

The difference between regular Juvéderm fillers and Juvéderm Voluma is the molecular weight of the hyaluronic acid. Juvéderm Voluma is used to restore volume in the cheek area, whereas Juvéderm is used  to “fill out” and smooth fine lines and wrinkles and add shape and volume to the lips. Juvéderm Voluma also can last up to 2 years, whereas Juvéderm results may last 6-12 months depending on the area injected and amount of product used.

Can I combine Juvéderm and Botox treatments?

Treatment with Botox, or any other neurotoxin, can be combined with Juvéderm Voluma or any other Juvéderm product during the same appointment. Using both types of products helps most clients achieve their ideal result and may provide longer-lasting results.

What are my options if I am allergic to lidocaine?

Products that do not contain lidocaine are available. Allergies will be noted during your initial consultation.

When should I plan treatment for ideal results?

It is recommended that you receive treatment 2-4 weeks before you want/need the results for a specific event on your calendar.

Are there any side effects with Juvéderm products?

Side effects are moderate and generally last 2 to 4 weeks. Common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching.

Will I bruise post treatment?

Bruising may vary. It may not occur at all. If it does, the bruise(s) can last 3-10 days. You can reduce risks of bruising and swelling if you do not take any Tylenol or Ibuprofen for 72 hours prior to treatment.

Is there a cost for a consultation?

The cost for a consultation with one of our Medical Aesthetics Specialists is $50. To see Dr. Parfitt, a consultation is $125. This consultation fee is applied to your account to use towards the cost of products or treatment at either AestheticA Skin Health Center or Parfitt Facial Cosmetic Surgery Center. This one-time cost applies only to your initial consultation; therefore, all future follow-up consultative appointments, regardless of the provider seen, are free.

  • Patients predisposed to developing cold sores should start on 500mg of Valtrex twice daily at least 2 days before treatment. A 7 day course of therapy is recommended (2 days prior and 5 days following filler).
  • Patients taking medications with anticoagulant effects, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, and Celebrex or high doses of certain herbs such as gingko, vitamin E, garlic or ginseng may have an increased risk of bleeding or bruising. If possible, it is advised to discontinue these medications two weeks prior to treatment. If you can’t, the procedure can still be done, but with higher risk of bruising.
  • There may be slight to moderate swelling and redness in the injected area for 24-48 hours. Avoid applying immediate pressure and excessive movements to the treated area, unless instructed to do so.
  • Apply a cool compress to treated area(s) as this may help to reduce swelling and potential for bruising.
  • Tylenol may be taken for any discomfort following treatment.
  • It is normal to feel some “tenderness” immediately following the treatment that may last for a few hours up to a few days and some “firmness” in your treated area(s). Over, time the areas will soften and “settle” leaving a natural look.
  • There is a small potential for the filler to not disperse evenly and form a small “nodule”. Typically a nodule cannot be seen but you may be able to feel it. If this occurs and is bothersome, please call our office to book a follow up appointment. The nodule may be a lingering bruise not requiring treatment; however, if a true nodule has formed we may be able to evenly disperse the product.
