AestheticA Skin Health Center offers a range of chemical peel treatments such as 15% TCA, 30% TCA, Obagi Radiance Peel, and the Obagi Blue Peel. Skin peels provide highly-satisfactory results, reducing the most common signs of aging and damaged skin. Skin peels can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, tone and texture of the skin, as well as hyperpigmentation, active acne breakouts and superficial scarring. Our Medical Aesthetics Specialists will recommend the level and type of peel best for you. 15% TCA, 30% TCA, and Obagi Radiance chemical peels are performed at both of our Appleton, WI and Middleton, WI locations. Obagi Blue Peel is only performed by Dr. Parfitt in the Middleton / Madison location.

OBAGI RADIANCE PEEL

Obagi Radiance Peel is an ideal treatment for those (whether young or mature) that have acne-prone skin. The unique blend of its key ingredients Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid and Glycolic Acid provides a gentle, but effective peel.

Since salicylic acid (beta-hydroxy acid) is oil-soluble, it’s capable of penetrating sebum-filled follicles and encouraging the shedding of dead skin cells from within the follicle, ultimately reducing the number of pore blockages and breakouts on the skin. Topically, salicylic acid reduces swelling and redness and helps correct the abnormal desquamation (shedding) process that occurs in acne-prone skin, working to slough away dead skin cells.

Lactic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA), is used as an exfoliant and assists in ungluing and removing the upper layer of skin.

Glycolic Acid, also an AHA, is used to improve the skin’s appearance and texture.

This treatment may cause mild visible flaking of the skin for 3-5 days following your appointment. Your Medical Aesthetics Specialist will provide you with additional guidance regarding the number of peels necessary to achieve the best results, your treatment schedule, and an at-home product regimen that may enhance your outcome.

OBAGI REVIVIFY MULTI-ACID FACIAL PEEL

Inspired by Obagi’s powerful in-office chemical peels, Revivify Multi-Acid Facial Peel is a two-step, pre-dosed chemical peel designed for at-home use.

Stressors such sun damage, hormonal fluctuations and blemishes cause dead skin cells to build up over time. In this condition, skin could benefit from Revivify Multi-Acid Facial Peel or one of the other chemical peel treatments provided in-office.

Revivify Multi-Acid Facial Peel contains four acids, each with unique molecular weights, which allow them to optimally absorb into the surface of the skin to revive, resurface and even the appearance of skin tone with each use. The Revivify Multi-Acid Facial Peel is intended to be performed in a series of four treatments over a two month period to achieve optimal results. During consultation, your Medical Aesthetics Specialist will determine if you are a candidate for this at-home peel and, if you are, educate you on how to incorporate this series of treatments into your current skin care regimen and in-office treatment plan.

TREATMENT GUIDELINES

OBAGI RADIANCE PEEL HOME CARE INSTRUCTIONS

This light peel has a 3-5 day recovery cycle. Immediately following treatment, skin will appear flushed and shiny for a few hours before returning to its normal coloring and appearance. Flaking and itching may also occur over the first few days. Refer to your provider’s topical recommendations to minimize any dryness or discomfort experienced while the peel is activating. Your provider will also discuss a recommended number or treatments to correct your individual skin care concerns

POST TREATMENT
  • Wear a high level of SPF over the first week following the treatment because sun sensitivity is increased after any BHA peel.
  • Do not expose the skin to any UV or Self-Tan Products.
  • Stop any Retinol (Vitamin A) Products for 2 weeks following procedure.
  • Avoid Excess heat exposure, such a hot shower or bath, for 48 hrs following treatment.

TRICHLORACETIC (TCA) SKIN PEELS

THE BEST IN CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels improve the overall appearance of your facial skin by removing the unproductive epidermis (outer layer of the skin). As a result, facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation are significantly reduced, if not eliminated. Although a variety of peeling agents and formulations can be used, we most commonly use Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) at AestheticA Skin Health Center. Unlike other types of deeper chemical peels, Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) has the advantage of creating a fresh natural-appearing complexion, while preserving the normal skin color.

15% Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) peels

15% TCA peels cause mild flaking of the skin for 2 to 6 days using topical non-toxic solution applications. These treatments are beneficial for combating acne, dry skin, weathered sun damaged skin, blotchy pigmentation and fine wrinkles.

We provide 15% TCA peels in three different levels of application: Light, Moderate, and Rejuvenation. Your Medical Aesthetics Specialist will help you determine which level is appropriate for your individual skin type and concerns. The typical treatment time is 30-45 minutes.

30% Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) peels

30% TCA peels quickly improve dull, weathered skin, freckling, blotchy pigmentation (including the “mask of pregnancy”), sun damage (including some pre-cancerous lesions), fine wrinkles and shallow acne scars. The facial skin must be pre-conditioned for at least 4 weeks prior to receiving a 30% TCA peel. Obagi NuDerm products will be prescribed for the pre-conditioning process. Due to the depth of penetration, the 30% TCA peel is performed only by Dr. Parfitt. Clients receiving the 30% TCA peel should be accompanied to their appointment as twilight sedation is administered, allowing you to be comfortable throughout the process. Clients can expect to peel for 7-10 days.

TREATMENT GUIDELINES

TCA PEEL HOME CARE INSTRUCTIONS

You will follow the same regimen twice daily for approximately seven to ten days, or until the skin is completely healed.

1. Cleanse with a regular gentle cleanser, such as Obagi NuDerm Gentle Cleanser, as recommended by Dr. Parfitt or one of our medical aesthetics specialists.

2. Mix the moisturizer recommended to you together with an equal part of 1%  hydrocortisone cream.

To achieve optimal results, you will also need to keep the skin moisturized as much as possible to keep the outer layer of skin (its barrier) intact for as long as possible.  To accomplish this, apply the moisturizer only as much as you would like to or feel you need to throughout the day for seven to ten days, or until the peel is complete.

HELPFUL HINTS TO AID IN OPTIMAL RESULTS AND HEALING

Avoid any unnecessary sun exposure; wear an SPF with Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide for physical protection again harmful UVA and UVB rays.

2. Wear a hat with a brim covering the face to further avoid unwanted sun exposure.

3. Avoid extreme facial expressions.

4. Keep your back to the shower head, not your face. Your skin will be heat sensitive while it is healing.

5. Do not pick, rub, or force any skin off. If peeling becomes significant, take a clippers or a small scissors to trim down the peeled skin. NEVER PULL.

6. Do not use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids or Retin A products until after the peeling has fully subsided and the skin has returned to its normal state.

Your skin will begin to peel and/or flake around day 2 or 3 without any pain, redness, or discomfort. The skin may feel tight right before peeling and appear slightly tan. The peeling will often begin around areas where muscle movement and expression are more significant and spread out.

Each TCA peel will give you a level of improvement. You and your provider will decide the number of TCA peels needed to achieve your goal. If you have any further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to call our office at 608.831.4007.

OBAGI BLUE PEEL

If you have moderate to significant concerns with hyperpigmentation, acne scars, large pores, loose or wrinkled skin, Obagi Blue Peel will restore your skin’s clarity and radiance, smoothness and tightness using Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) mixed with the patented blue base from Obagi.  This peel is appropriate for all skin types and may be used on both facial and non-facial skin.

Your Medical Aesthetics Specialist will assess your skin and the level of correction you would like to achieve prior to making their Obagi Blue Peel recommendations. They will give consideration to the number of Obagi Blue Peels you should receive, as well as the depth of the peel and a treatment schedule, to ensure you achieve maximum results. This peel requires a preparation of your skin using the Obagi Nu-Derm System for at least one month prior to your scheduled peel. Oral antibiotics are to be taken for 5 days, beginning two days prior to your scheduled peel.

Twilight sedation is generally recommended, but not required, during the Obagi Blue Peel due to the mild burning sensation that will occur for a few minutes during the application of the peel.  You will experience a bluish tint to your skin that usually washes off in 12 to 24 hours. Depending on the depth of your peel, you may experience mild swelling of the area. Within 2-3 days of the application of the Obagi Blue Peel, your skin will begin to peel. This peeling process will be fully accomplished within 5-10 days.

The results are worth the time and recovery. A visible improvement in your skin’s texture, color and firmness will be noticeable immediately following the peel. Your skin’s appearance should continue to improve for the next 4 to 6 weeks, becoming even more firm, clear, smooth, healthy, and younger looking.

Why use Obagi NuDerm Products Before and After Obagi Blue Peel?

Skin conditioning before and after cosmetic treatments greatly enhances the outcome. The Obagi NuDerm System conditions the skin by helping to correct and stimulate its normal functions.
