BOTOX Cosmetic Injectable Treatment

Botox® Cosmetic is a neuromodulator injectable used to reduce the appearance of dynamic facial wrinkles by temporarily relaxing targeted facial muscles. By limiting muscle movement in specific areas, Botox helps soften lines and creases caused by repeated facial expressions, allowing the skin to appear smoother and more refreshed.

Botox treatments are offered at AestheticA Skin Health Center in Middleton and are performed by experienced aesthetic providers.

Dr. Parfitt First Started Injecting Botox Treatments During His Fellowship In Beverly Hills. He Was The First Doctor To Provide Botox For Cosmetic Purposes In The Madison Area.

How Botox Works

Botox works by reducing muscle activity in areas where facial movement contributes to visible lines and wrinkles. When these muscles are relaxed, the overlying skin appears smoother while natural facial expression is maintained.

Botox vs. Other Neuromodulators

Botox, Dysport®, and Letybo® are all neuromodulators used to soften dynamic wrinkles. Each product works in a similar way, and the choice of neuromodulator depends on the treatment area, desired outcome, and provider recommendation.  A consultation allows your provider to determine whether Botox is the most appropriate neuromodulator for your individual goals.

Botox for Hyperhidrosis

Botox is recommended for the treatment of Axillary Hyperhidrosis, or excessive underarm sweating. When small doses are injected into the skin, Botox blocks the actions of the nerves that supply the eccrine glands, this prevents the glands from producing sweat. The effects of treatment last for several months (4-6 months). Our Madison and Appleton patients repeat treatments to maintain results. If you feel you have hyperhidrosis, visit Allergan’s Botox site for a self-assessment.

Botox for Headaches

Botox also is used for relief from migraine headaches. If you experience migraine headaches and are looking to Botox as a solution, please contact us online or call our offices to schedule an appointment with Dr. Parfitt.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox:

When can I see the results and how long will it last?
Our clients typically start to see the results within one to two weeks of receiving the treatment. Results can last up to 4 months.
Does Botox prevent wrinkles?
Yes, Botox can be used as prevention for wrinkles.

Will I bruise post Botox treatment?
You can reduce risks of bruising and swelling if Tylenol or Ibuprofen is stopped 72 hours prior to treatment. Bruising may vary and can last 3-10 days.

I do not want to look frozen, how do I get a natural look?
During your initial consultation, one of our Medical Aesthetics Specialists will discuss your goals and recommend specific treatment options. It is our goal to provide a natural-looking, youthful result.

Can I combine Botox with other treatments?
Dr. Parfitt and his team will evaluate your entire facial anatomy, your aging features and all the possibilities for facial skin improvement. Combination treatments with Botox are quite common, including dermal fillers, skin peels, microdermabrasion and skin care products to enhance your treatment results.

Some patients feel that using Botox in combination with their dermal filler in some treatment areas, allows for the longest-lasting and best results. Why? Without Botox, the dynamic movement of the muscle in the dermal filler treatment area could cause the filler product to break down more quickly.

What is the Botox National Education Faculty?
Allergan’s National Education Faculty (NEF) is an esteemed society of Botox providers who have been certified by Allergan not only in administering Botox treatments, but specifically certified by Allergan to train other physicians in the administration of Botox Cosmetic. Dr. Parfitt’s membership in the NEF assures you the highest level of skill and expertise in the administration of Botox injections by all members of our clinical staff.

What are the risks with Botox?
The most common side effect from a Botox treatment is actually from the needle itself. As with all injections, there is a risk of bruising and redness. Other side effects include temporary headache, and some soreness or tenderness at the injection site. More severe side effects can include a rash or allergic reaction, and possibly some drooping of facial muscles near treated areas, usually as a result of “spreading”. For a full list of potential side effects, you should have a consultation and review an informed consent form.

Is there a cost for a consultation?

To see one of our Medical Aesthetics Specialists, the cost for a skin consultation is $50. To see Dr. Parfitt, the cost for your skin consultation is $125. This consultation fee is applied to your account to use towards products or treatments at either AestheticA Skin Health Center or Parfitt Facial Cosmetic Surgery Center. This one-time cost applies only to your initial consultation; therefore all future follow-up consultative appointments, regardless of the provider seen, are free.

Treatment Guidelines

Pre Treatment

  • To avoid bruising it is best not to take any medications that cause blood thinning, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, or Vitamin E for 2 days prior and 2 days after treatment.

  • Do not use Botox, Dysport or Letybo if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of its ingredients, or suffer from any neurological disorders. Please inform your clinician if you have any questions about this prior to the procedure.

  • Sunburned skin is difficult to treat so avoid exposure to the sun.

  • Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal cream on the area to be treated for 3 days prior to treatment.

  • Inform your clinician if you have a history of Perioral Herpes to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment.

  • Always inform your clinician of all medications you may be taking as well as your medical history.

Post Treatment

  • You may have bruises in the areas treated with Botox, Dysport or LetyboThis is normal.

  • It will take up to two weeks for you to experience the full effect of the Botox treatment. Remain patient. It takes time for the muscles to lose strength and the lines to fade following Botox, Dysport or Letybo treatments.

  • It is best to try to exercise your treated muscles for 1-2 hours after treatment (e.g. practice frowning, raising your eyebrows, or squinting). This helps to work Botox Cosmetic, Dysport or Letybo into your muscles. Although thought to help, it will NOT impact your treatment negatively if you forget to do this.

  • Do NOT rub, massage or apply excessive pressure to the treated areas for 4 hours after your treatment. Do NOT practice Yoga or any type of strenuous exercise for 4 hours after treatment. Also, avoid facials or saunas for 4 hours after your treatment. This will minimize the risk of raising your blood pressure and therefore minimize the risk of temporary bruising. Feel free to shower and go about most other regular daily activities.

  • Do NOT lie down for 4 hours after treatment. This is to avoid the risk of pressure on the treated areas (from your pillow) and to avoid the risk of having the area rubbed accidentally.

  • Be assured that any tiny bumps or marks will go away within a few minutes to an hour. If you need to apply make-up within 4 hours after your treatment, only use a GENTLE touch to avoid rubbing the treated area.

Botox Cosmetic is a temporary procedure and at first, you may find that your treatment results will last approximately 3 or 4 months. If you maintain your treatment appointments with the frequency recommended by your doctor, the duration of each treatment result may last longer than 4 months.
