Juvéderm FAQ and Treatment Guidelines

Juvéderm Treatments in Wisconsin

FAQs ABOUT JUVÉDERM:

When can I resume normal activities after my treatment?

No exercise, major manipulation of facial expressions, or makeup during the day of treatment is highly recommended. After 24 hours, you should be able to resume your normal activities.

How long is the Juvéderm treatment?

The average treatment with any of these products takes about 30 minutes. However, this may vary depending on the amount or type of correction you are seeking. Although most clients find the injections to be relatively painless, a topical anesthetic may be applied to the area prior to receiving your treatment, which may add to your time in clinic. Results can be seen immediately following treatment.

Can I combine Juvéderm and Botox treatments?

Treatment with any neurotoxin (Botox, Dysport, or Jeuveau) can be combined with injectable fillers during the same appointment. Using both types of products helps most clients achieve their ideal result and may provide longer-lasting results.

Are there any side effects with Juvéderm products?

Side effects are moderate and generally last 2 to 4 weeks. Common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching.

How long does Juvéderm XC last?

Depending on the type and amount of Juvederm product used and the area injected, results may last 6-24 months.

What are my options if I am allergic to lidocaine?

Products that do not contain lidocaine are available. Allergies will be noted during your initial consultation.

When should I plan treatment for ideal results?

It is recommended that you receive treatment 2-4 weeks before you want/need the results for a specific event on your calendar.

Will I bruise post treatment?

Bruising will vary. Following some treatments, it may not occur at all. If it does, the bruise(s) can last 3-10 days. You can reduce risks of bruising and swelling if you do not take any Tylenol or Ibuprofen for at least 72 hours prior to treatment.

Patients taking medications with anticoagulant effects on a regular basis, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, and Celebrex or high doses of certain herbs such as gingko, vitamin E, garlic or ginseng may have an increased risk of bleeding or bruising. If possible, it is advised to discontinue these medications two weeks prior to treatment. If you can’t, the procedure can still be done, but with higher risk of bruising.

Is there a cost for a consultation?

The cost for a consultation with one of Medical Aesthetics Specialists is $50. To see Dr. Parfitt, a consultation is $125. This consultation fee is applied to your account to use towards products or treatment at either AestheticA Skin Health Center or Parfitt Facial Cosmetic Surgery Center. This one-time cost applies only to your initial consultation; therefore, all future follow-up consultative appointments, regardless of the provider seen, are free.

TREATMENT GUIDELINES

PRE TREATMENT
  • Patients predisposed to developing cold sores should start on 500mg of Valtrex twice daily at least two days before treatment. A seven day course of therapy is recommended (two days prior and five days following filler).
  • You can reduce risks of bruising and swelling if you do not take any Tylenol or Ibuprofen for at least 72 hours prior to treatment.
  • Patients taking medications with anticoagulant effects on a regular basis, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, and Celebrex or high doses of certain herbs such as gingko, vitamin E, garlic or ginseng may have an increased risk of bleeding or bruising. If possible, it is advised to discontinue these medications two weeks prior to treatment. If you can’t, the procedure can still be done, but with higher risk of bruising.
POST TREATMENT
  • Avoid applying immediate pressure and excessive movements to the treated area, unless instructed to do so.
  • Apply a cool compress to treated area(s) as this may help to reduce swelling and potential for bruising.
  • Tylenol may be taken for any discomfort and cold compresses may be lightly applied to reduce swelling.
  • It is normal to feel some “tenderness” immediately following the treatment that may last for a few hours up to a few days and some “firmness” in your treated area(s). Over time, the areas will soften and “settle” leaving a natural look.
  • There is a small potential for the filler to not disperse evenly and form a small “nodule”. Typically a nodule cannot be seen, but you may be able to feel it. If this occurs and is bothersome, please call our office to book a follow up appointment. The nodule may be a lingering bruise; however, if a true nodule has formed, we may be able to evenly disperse the product.
