Radiesse

WHAT IS RADIESSE?

Radiesse is a synthetic dermal filler that reduces wrinkles, creases and scars by augmenting the body’s natural collagen supply. Composed of microspheres of calcium hydroxyl apatite, Radiesse is made from the same minerals found in our bones, so it carries no risk of allergic reaction. Radiesse is a safe, long-lasting, natural solution. Radiesse is FDA-approved for correction of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.

AM I AN IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR RADIESSE?

Men and women who are looking for a non-surgical anti-aging treatment may be good candidates for Radiesse treatments.

Radiesse is commonly used to improve:

Smile lines or nasal labial folds (line that extends between the base of the nose and the corner of your mouth)

Marionette lines (lines that run downward from the corners of the mouth)

Corners of the mouth (oral commissure)

Pre-jowl fold (area on either side of the chin, where skin can sag due to loss of facial volume)

Chin wrinkles (horizontal lines that can form on your chin and distract from your smile)

– Severity of pits and scars caused by acne

RADIESSE TREATMENT

Radiesse is most effectively used to treat the nasolabial folds (line that extends between the base of the nose and the corner of your mouth), peri-oral lines (around the mouth), depressed scars and oral commissures (downward from the corners of your mouth).

At first, it acts immediately like a dermal filler, adding volume beneath the skin. After about 3 months, it continues to act as a structure when production increases naturally for new collagen.

Treatments typically take 15-30 minutes and require only local anesthetic. Side effects such as swelling or bruising are minimal and should fade within a few days. When injected, the cream-like texture of Radiesse feels soft and natural and results are visible immediately after the injection. It is gradually replaced by the body’s own tissue, and slowly dissolves. The results may last approximately 1 year.

FAQs ABOUT RADIESSE:

When can I resume normal activities after my treatment?

No exercise, major manipulation of facial expressions, or makeup during the day of treatment is highly recommended. After 24 hours, you should be able to resume your normal activities.

How long is the Radiesse treatment?

The average treatment with Radiesse takes about 45 minutes. However, this may vary depending on the amount or type of correction you are seeking. Although most clients find the injections to be relatively painless, a topical anesthetic may be applied to the area prior to receiving your treatment, which may add to your time in clinic.

How long does Radiesse last?

Results may last 12-18 months depending on the area injected and amount of product used.

What are my options if I am allergic to lidocaine?

Products that do not contain lidocaine are available. Allergies will be noted during your initial consultation.

When should I plan treatment for ideal results?

It is recommended that you receive treatment 2-4 weeks before you want/need the results for a specific event on your calendar.

Will I bruise post treatment?

You can reduce risks of bruising and swelling if Tylenol or Ibuprofen is stopped 72 hours prior to treatment. Bruising may vary and can last 3-10 days.

Is there a cost for a consultation?

To see one of our Medical Aesthetics Specialists, the cost for a skin consultation is $50. To see Dr. Parfitt, the cost for your skin consultation is $125. TREATMENT GUIDELINES

PRE TREATMENT
  • Patients predisposed to developing cold sores should start on 500mg of Valtrex twice daily at least 2 days before treatment. A 7 day course of therapy is recommended (2 days prior and 5 days following filler).
  • Patients taking medications with anticoagulant effects, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, and Celebrex or high doses of certain herbs such as gingko, vitamin E, garlic or ginseng may have an increased risk of bleeding or bruising. If possible, it is advised to discontinue these medications two weeks prior to treatment. If you can’t, the procedure can still be done, but with higher risk of bruising.
POST TREATMENT
  • There may be slight to moderate swelling and redness in the injected area for 24-48 hours. Avoid applying immediate pressure and excessive movements to the treated area, unless instructed to do so.
  • Apply a cool compress to treated area/s as this may help to reduce swelling and potential for bruising.
  • Tylenol may be taken for any discomfort and cold compresses may be lightly applied to reduce swelling.
  • It is normal to feel some “tenderness” immediately following the treatment that may last for a few hours up to a few days and some “firmness” in your treated area/s. Over, time the areas will soften and “settle” leaving a natural look.
  • There is a small potential for the filler to not disperse evenly and form a small “nodule”. Typically a nodule cannot be seen but you may be able to feel it. If this occurs and is bothersome, please call our office to book a follow up appointment. The nodule may be a lingering bruise not requiring treatment, however if a true nodule has formed we may be able to evenly disperse the product.
