You may have acquired ptosis (low-lying lids), which can effect the way you look and see things due to a reduced field of vision. While acquired ptosis usually occurs with increased age, it can affect adults of all ages. Typically, low-lying lids occur when the muscles in the eyelid stretch and weaken, causing the lid to droop, but they may be caused by other issues, such as cataract surgery, contact lens wear, or an underlying medical condition.
Low-lying lids may cause a person to look tired, asymmetrical eyes or other cosmetic concerns, as well as concerns with day-to-day functioning while reading, driving or using a computer. Upneeq® is the only FDA-approved prescription eye drop for acquired ptosis (low-lying lids) that lifts your upper eyelids to open your eyes. If you are bothered by your eyelids, speak with one of our medical aesthetics specialists to find out if you have low-lying lids. They’ll help determine if Upneeq® is right for you.
One drop of UPNEEQ® (oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution), 0.1% is instilled into one or both ptotic eyes once daily to treat low-lying lids (acquired blepharoptosis) in adults by stimulating the Muller’s muscle, an involuntary muscle in the eyelid, to contract. Upneeq provides results in 15 minutes, with peak effect at 2 hours. Results may last up to 8 hours.
We require a brief consultation with one of our Medical Aesthetic Specialists prior to starting Upneeq. This is to ensure you’re a good candidate for the product, as well as go through the directions and possible side effects with you. Since Upneeq is a prescription product, you will fill out a short medical history form as part of the consultation process. After your consultation you can stop by during business hours to replenish your product as needed.
